Arnold Wiltz, German-American, 1889-1937
Interior with Female Nude, 1930
Signed Woodcut Print, 1/35
Description
A signed 1930 woodcut print by German-American modernist Arnold Wiltz (1889–1937), titled Interior with Female Nude. The composition depicts a standing nude in an interior setting, with a mirror, window, bedpost, drapery, and sharply patterned architectural details creating a strong sense of rhythm and enclosure.
Wiltz was associated with the Woodstock, New York art colony and is noted for modernist work that combined elements of Precisionism and Surrealism. His painting Ashokan Dam was exhibited at the Carnegie International in 1933 and is now in the collection of the Smithsonian American Art Museum. This small but striking woodcut reflects the same interest in stylized form, interior atmosphere, and graphic structure.
The print is pencil signed lower right and numbered 1/35, making it an especially appealing work for collectors of early 20th-century modernist prints, German-American artists, Woodstock art colony material, or intimate figural interiors.
