Description

A charming double-sided oil painting featuring two distinct compositions by an unidentified artist. The principal side depicts a solitary figure seated at the end of a park bench beneath dense green foliage. Dressed in red, white, and black, the figure emerges against a tapestry of autumnal browns and softly blended greens. Broad, economical brushwork and passages of heavier impasto give the scene an appealing immediacy, while the slightly flattened perspective lends it the character of early modernist and American Impressionist painting.

The reverse contains a second, more atmospheric composition: an interior centered on a table or mantel holding books and two small arrangements of flowers. Deep teal and blue-green verticals suggest curtains or a shadowed window, creating a quiet, almost theatrical contrast with the brighter outdoor scene.

The interior scene is currently presented in a simple gold frame. The reverse composition is concealed by the present backing but was photographed before framing.

Condition

Vintage condition with visible wear consistent with age. Both scenes displays scattered abrasions, small paint losses, surface marks, areas of rubbing, and minor irregularities to the board. The paint surface varies from thinly brushed passages to areas of heavier impasto.

The gold frame is new.
