Description

A dramatic neoclassical-style lidded urn with a dark glazed body, richly modeled bronzed mounts, and hand-painted decorative panels. The central cartouche features musical instruments entwined with flowers and foliage, while the surrounding body is embellished with gilt ornament, relief lions, mascarons, and classical borders.

Two large winged female figures form the side handles, giving the urn an unusually sculptural presence. The removable lid rises to a rounded finial above a spiraling neck, while the vessel rests on a foliate-decorated pedestal base. At approximately two feet high and weighing about 20 pounds, this is less “small decorative accent” and more “the room has acquired a minor aristocrat.” The prior auction catalog described the same details and recorded dimensions of approximately 24 × 12 inches.

Condition

Very good vintage condition with minor age-related wear. The dark glazed body shows scattered light surface marks and handling wear. The bronzed figural handles and decorative mounts display light patination and rubbing consistent with age.

The prior auction catalog specifically noted no visible chips or cracks to the ceramic body and described the piece as being in very good vintage condition.
